What you’ll need:
1 package of egg roll wrappers
1 lb of ground beef
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of pepper
½ teaspoon of garlic powder
½ teaspoon of onion powder
1 medium white onion
1 and 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
1 small bowl of water (for moistening and sealing the egg roll wrappers)
2 cups of canola oil
1 tablespoon of canola oil
Sauce
¼ cup ketchup
¼ cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons mustard
2 tablespoons chopped dill pickles.
Step 1
Season your ground meat with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder and set aside. Finely dice your onion and set aside
Step 2
Pour approximately 2 cups of oil into a pot and heat on medium
Note – Please use a thermometer to keep your oil at 375 or below!
Step 3
While your oil is heating up, add 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan and sauté your onion until translucent. Add your ground meat and brown it, ensuring to remove any excess fat from the pan.
Step 4
Once your ground meat is browned, remove it and place it in a bowl, and let stand for 5 minutes. Once it’s cooled and add the 1.5 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, mix well.
Step 5
Remove the egg roll wrappers from the packaging and separate them for ease of use. Once separated, spoon ground meat mix in 1 quarter to 1 third cup of mix per egg roll wrapper. Note, you really need to be subjective here, I personally prefer a bit thicker egg roll so I go with 1 third cup.
After you place your mix on the egg roll wrapper, dip your finger in the water and moisten the edges (all 4) of the egg roll wrapper. Typically, egg roll wrappers have instructions on how to roll them, it’s not difficult,
Step 6
Your oil should be heated to almost 375. You can begin frying between 350 and 375 just be aware that your temps will drop as you add the egg rolls. Fry, gently, for 3 minutes, flipping with a fork at 1:50 seconds.
Egg rolls should be golden brown as you pull them out. Place on a wire rack to drain and let cool.
Mix your sauce ingredients well, dip the Cheeseburger Spring Rolls in the sauce, and enjoy!
Our Story
While not exactly the same, mainly because I can’t find real spring roll wrappers, these are fantastic! The egg roll wrappers are a bit thicker and crisp up, especially if you fry them in oil. You can fry these in the air fryer, simply air fry at 400 for 5 minutes, checking after 2 minutes to make sure they don’t burn, and flip/roll and continue.
I’ve also made variations where I’ve used browned chicken thighs diced small, crumbled bacon and shredded cheddar cheese and we’ve dipped them in avocado lime ranch dressing.
Enjoy!
