Ingredients
- Smoked Pork Shoulder (Pulled Pork)
- Macaroni and Cheese
- Cole Slaw mix
- Cole Slaw dressing
- Onion Rings (Red Robin frozen works best)
- BBQ Sauce
Step 1
You can either smoke a pork butt yourself or buy pre-smoked pork shoulder from a local BBQ or the grocery store.
Step 2
Bake your macaroni and cheese per the instructions. We use Stouffers Macaroni and Cheese because it is similar to what you get at Flame Tree BBQ. We’ve used homemade mac and cheese as well. (If you want that recipe, just request it and I’ll send it to you!)
Step 3
Make and mix cole slaw with the cole slaw dressing and set aside in the fridge to chill.
Step 4
Bake your onion rings per the instructions.
Step 5
Once everything is ready, add 2 scoops of mac and cheese to a bowl, top with 2 scoops of pulled pork. Add a scoop of cole slaw mix to the bowl and top with 3 onion rings. Drizzle with BBQ sauce and dig in!
Enjoy!
Our Story
Years ago, we had Flame Tree BBQ for the first time. I remember walking up to the counter and seeing the menu. When I saw “Baked Mac and Cheese”, I knew that’s what I wanted. It just sounded like a hug for your soul. Sitting there behind Flame Tree on the water watching the kites, it was perfect. Like most Disney experiences this one is etched into my memory. The clear day, no clouds in the sky on a mild February day. Absolute perfection.
I enjoy smoking meats on my BBQ pit, so I knew that I could re-create this delicacy fairly easily. At home, the hard part is going to be someone who doesn’t have a smoker or the time to cook a pork shoulder. The way around this is to find a local BBQ joint or head to your local grocery store. They oftentimes have prepackaged BBQ offerings like brisket and even pork shoulder (it may be labeled as Pulled Pork or Pork Butt).
As I mentioned above, we use Stouffers frozen Mac and Cheese because it’s close enough to what they serve at Flame Tree BBQ, though I have used homemade and it’s just as good.
Any slaw mix and dressing will work, and the onion rings can be frozen. For the BBQ sauce, I’d use something like Stubbs. You want a Carolina sauce (vinegar-based, loose sauce – not a thick KC style sauce). Altogether, it works perfectly for 90% store-bought items.
This one is a labor of love if you do everything homemade, but it is well worth the effort.
