On June 17th, my wife and I celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary. Originally, we’d said “No Gifts” because we were trying to save for our next Disney trip. Earlier this week, I’d seen some pretty cool Disney games at Branes and Nobles, and I wanted to get her one of those but didn’t.
She surprised me after work with a gift that I had no idea about. I unwrapped it discovered she had gotten me a 4-pack mixed set of candles from the Magic Candle Company. I got Fiji, Pirates Life, Haunted and Main St. Bakery.
As I opened them to smell them, I got goosebumps because the scents brought me right back to the rides and the parks. When I smelled Fiji, I was instantly sitting on Soarin’, my feet dangling as we rode the 7 wonders of the world. Haunted brought me right back to the Mansion and our ghost host. Pirates Life had me slowly wandering down the Caribbean on the look-out for Capt’ Jack Sparrow. And Main St. Bakery instantly brought me back to walking down Main St. If you close your eyes, you’re there.
The Banshee Flight spray smells exactly like Pandora and Flights of Passage. It does have a hint of Fiji about it and right now my entire house smells like Banshee Flight! When you can’t be there, the next best thing is to trick you mind into thinking you’re there.
For Father’s Day, my wife also got me a 50th Anniversary Commemorative Brick. This one is from our recent Mardi Gras (February) trip in 2022. It has all Park icons on it (Tree of Life, Cinderella’s Castle, Haunted Mansion and Spaceship Earth) at the top and “Platt Family Mardi Gras Vacation 2022” at the bottom. I think that this is going to be a tradition as long as Disney keeps doing it. This along with coffee mugs seems to just feel right.
We’re 18 days out from our next Disney trip, our 1 day Animal Kingdom Park visit and to be honest. I can’t wait.
